Fishing news: 99-inch total wins Kayak Bass Challenge

Dustin Barrow had a total length of 99.50 inches and also big fish with a 22.50-incher to win the Polk County Kayak Bass Challenge season-ending classic Oct. 24 at Tenoroc Fish Management Area. John Fuchs had 93 inches to take second place. Russ Kennedy was third with 88.50 inches. Sean Woodham was named club Angler of the Year, and Charlie Greer took big bass of the year with a 24.50-incher caught during the Crooked Lake event.

ack Rhoden and John Merck had a seven fish aggregate of 7.85 pounds and big fish with a 1.37-pounder to win the Florida Crappie Club tournament Oct. 24 at Lake Tarpon. Tony Strollo and Don Vanderpool were second with 7.20 pounds. Ronnie Maddox and Robert Wolfe were third with 7.07 pounds.

Jeff Williams and Skip Richey had 8.09 pounds to win the Hoppy’s Marine CATCH’EM CRAPPIE tournament Oct. 24 at Port Hatchineha. Jeremy Goff, Mike Barnes, Reed Wells and Matt Ellis were second with 7.79 pounds and also had big fish with a 1.62-pounder. Travis Cliett, Gary Paramore and Nick Cliett were third with 7.42 pounds.

Scott Cannella and Don Rooks had 20.08 pounds to win the Lake Wales Po Boys Bass Club tournament Oct. 25 at Lake Kissimmee. Jason Brewer and Steve Coleman were second with 17.18 pounds. Mike Knapek and Steven Knapek were third with 15.20 pounds. Scott Cannella took big bass with a 6.51-pounder.

Steve Purkey and Brian Purkey had 21.03 pounds to win the Kissimmee Bass Series Team Trail classic Oct. 25 on the Kissimmee Chain. Lee Sisson and Mike Nicknadarvich were second with 19.09 pounds. Steve Purkey took big bass with a 7.57-pounder.

The Xtreme Bass Series Championship is Nov. 6-7 on the Kissimmee Chain out of Camp Mack. The Ron’s Tackle Box Benefit Tournament for VFW Post #4289 will be Nov. 7 on the Winter Haven Chain out of Lake Shipp Park. Safe daylight to 2 p.m. Entry fee is $75 per boat and $5 per angler for big bass. First three places are guaranteed prize money along with a 100% big fish pot. The next Winter Haven Lunker Lovers’ tournament, for members who qualify, will be the classic on Nov. 7-8 on the Kissimmee Chain out of Camp Lester. The next Lakeland Bassmasters’ Draw tournament will be the classic on Nov. 8 at a location to be announced. The Lake Wales Breakfast Rotary Club 17th annual Reel ‘Em in For Rotary charity bass tournament will be Nov. 14 at Lake Kissimmee out of Camp Mack. Safe daylight to 2 p.m. Entry fee is $85 per boat pre-registered and $100 day of the event. Ramp fee is $6 paid at ramp. First six places are guaranteed prize money along with a big fish pot. The next Lake Wales Po Boys Bass Club tournament is Nov. 15 on Lake Istokpoga out of the U.S. 98 County Ramp. The club is always seeking new members. All tournaments have a five-fish limit with a 12-inch minimum. There is a $35 membership fee per year with a $50 per team tournament entry fee and $20 per team big bass pot.
