• Surface Area: 44,000 Acres Sitting on the shoreline of the lake is the Lake Kissimmee State Park which provides recreation for lake goers. Within the park is 13 miles of hiking trails and 6 miles of horseback riding trails. The park also provides 60 campsites with full facilities. There are also two primitive camping sites and a youth camping area. Other activities to be enjoyed in the park include boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and nature viewing. Wildlife viewing is one of the main attractions of the park and lake. Some of the species that can be found in the park include two hundred species of birds, bobcats, grey foxes, wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, sandhill cranes, fox squirrels and otters. The park is open from 8:00 am till sundown year round. The Cow Camp is also located in the park. It is a living history site that depicts an 1876 cattle camp, including Florida scrub cattle. Local cattlemen were commonly referred to as Cracker cowboys. Cow Camp is open on weekends and holidays from October through May 1. |
